NEW SUNNINGHILL HOSPITAL
The hospital was conceived as a 230 bed, 7 theatre urban private hospital, with doctor’s rooms, rehabilitation centre, and as one of the prime medical practices involved in the project were Radiologists, the largest radiology department in the southern hemisphere at the time of construction. This department had two MRI units, as well as state of the art equipment for that era. The facilities included a full pathology laboratory, 18 ICU beds, and a dedicated pediatric section with play area and some live in accommodation for mothers with small babies. The hospital had no special maternity and labor facilities at the time of construction.
The building is situated in a largely residential area, and care was taken to lessen the impact of the building on the surroundings by utilizing the sharp western slope of the site, and placing the single storey Radiology department on the main access road side.
