Leon Krüger

Architect

Leon exhibits a high level of congruence between his professional and private personas. He values the characteristics of moderation, reasonableness, professionalism, clear thinking and fairness, and believes one should have the courage of one’s convictions.

While he finds certain trends in architecture – particularly excessive ornamentation - unacceptable, he would tolerate them if they made sense for his client, but he would be unable to resist the temptation to gently maneuver his client towards a more elegant, yet functional solution.

The work of Mies van der Rohe inspires him, as do the designs of Van der Rohe’s contemporaries Walter Gropius and Le Corbusier, and, if given the choice, he would tend to favour the International Style in his designs. He is a science-fiction buff, Frank Herbert and Iain M Banks being a few of his favourite authors, and he enjoys reading in the little time he has available for relaxation. He lives in Pretoria.
